LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

The Gyrl Wonder Leadership Academy (GWLA) is our annual week-long educational intensive filled with impactful conversations, hands-on workshops that empower the next-generation of women leaders.

GWLA is a dynamic experience of empowerment, education, and relationship-building. Created to aid young women with career discovery that is in alignment with their passions, the week long camp has morphed into an internship and career development pipeline providing corporations with entry level talent.

The leadership Academy ensures that attendees not only learn how to get the most out of their college experiences, but also to teach attendees how to build mutually beneficial professional relationships. Past and present partners include ABC, Atlantic Records, Bravo, The NBA, The NFL, Netflix, Viacom, Conde Nast, Teen Vogue, BuzzFeed and The Mayor's Office!

WHOLISTICALLY ME

“Wholistically Me” is our mental health initiative that serves to preemptively address any obstacles our gyrls may face before they become hindrances. We partner with therapists of color to provide mentees with access to mental health services at a discounted rate.

“Wholistically Me” partners with black therapists to provide mentees with access to mental health services at a discounted rate. Young women are dealing with an increased amount of untreated trauma, leaving them susceptible to engage in negative coping behaviors like self-harm, substance abuse, and depression. For our gyrls to show up as their best selves in both school and in the workforce, we must ensure that they develop the tools to manage past traumas and any present issues threatening the health of their emotional wellbeing.

GW SCHOLARSHIP FUND

At a time when COVID-19 has gripped every corner of the nation, and as an organization dedicated to empowering and equipping young women for career readiness, Gyrl Wonder is aware that college students face their own set of unique challenges in this pandemic. The numbers don’t Iie, new graduates are walking into the worst job market since the Great Depression.

Since mid-March, over 40 million Americans have filed for unemployment, surging the national jobless rate to 13.3%. And student loan debt isn’t letting up even in the middle of a global pandemic -- past and current students currently owe $1.64 trillion, averaging $35,397 of federal debt each. The bottom line: Gyrl Wonder recognizes today’s stressful realities, and is committed to helping gyrls fill in the gaps as they work towards their dreams.

With Love, Gyrl Wonder

Because part of Gyrl Wonder's mission is rooted in service, we encourage our gyrls to find creative and innovative ways to give back to the communities from which they draw their foundation. Through quarterly service programs we teach mentees how to identify the "extra" in her life and share it with  not only the neighborhoods they come from but the global community at large.

With Love, Gyrl Wonder gives us the opportunity to partner with community based organizations and brands to create even more programming that drives social change. Activities include feeding the homeless, feminine product packing parties, an annual sock drive and preparing care packages for international youth.

FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

The Gyrl Wonder Fellowship is a competitive career development program and is part of our commitment to attract and prepare potential diverse early-career talent. By offering our most distinguished Gyrl Wonders 10 weeks of paid intensive training and on the job experience, our mentees gain hands on work experience in an area of interest, professional development workshops, mentorship, networking opportunities and more.
